TV images of half-empty stands at the London 2012 Summer Olympic Games have angered sports fans and launched an inquiry to identify who had failed to show up and why.
London organizing committee (LOCOG) chairman Sebastian Coe had threatened to name sponsors that did not fill their seats, but now says the missing spectators were mostly officials from international sports federations, other Olympic officials, their families and friends.
Coe said, "it doesn't obviously appear to be a sponsorship issue at the moment". He said that only eight per cent of allocated tickets went to big corporate sponsors such as Visa and Coca-Cola, and that 75 per cent of the tickets were in the hands of the public.
While the cycling road race and rowing events seats were filled Saturday, Coe said that other events such as basketball, gymnastics, swimming and tennis had empty seats because they had been held open for officials like himself making short visits to venues or wrestling with busy schedules.
He added that London organizers were trying to fill spare sets by inviting local children and teachers to use the spare tickets, selling more tickets, handing tickets to the military, and upgrading other ticket holders.
Organizers said they were already in touch with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to find out who failed to show up and why.

According to general manager, Alan Wong, the Las Vegas restaurant decided to add young coconut as part of its effort to introduce the natural health benefits of Asian cuisine.
Young coconuts have long been regarded for their nutritious and detoxification properties because the water they contain takes nine months to be filtered and stored away in the nut, says Wong. The science is sound. It is more nutritious than whole milk but contains no cholesterol and is healthier than orange juice with fewer calories.
Although it has taken longer than some have hoped, young coconut is starting to become a healthy alternative to the abundance of energy drinks on the market. The claim that it would one day outpace energy drinks originally came from Morton Satin, chief of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization five years ago.
Coconut is the very stuff of nature, biologically pure, full of natural sugars, salts, and vitamins that ward off fatigue, Satin had said. And it is the next wave of energy drinks.
One of the reasons he made the claim was because coconut water has high levels of electrolytes and potassium, between three and five times more than energy and sports drinks. But unlike energy drinks, it has no chemicals or preservatives.
I think young coconut would have taken off much faster in the United States if it could have been packaged, said Wong. But the almost magical properties of young coconut dissipate when the water is exposed to air. You cannot package it. You have to enjoy it fresh from the coconut itself.
After patrons at the restaurant enjoy the fresh coconut water, they scoop out and eat the meat of the coconut. The meat is said to contain healing properties because of the high amount of lauric acid. Although lauric acid has been found to increase total cholesterol, the increase is attributed to the high-density lipoprotein (HDL) or good cholesterol. Lauric acid is proven to have positive effects on the cardiovascular system, and helps the body produce monolaurin, which research has shown to help the immune system.
There have been many remedies attributed to young coconut for hundreds and hundreds of years in Southern Asia, said Wong. It is one of the many reasons that Thai cooking incorporates coconut milk into many of its recipes. But young coconut is more powerful because it is served fresh, right from the coconut.
Wong said young coconut is often ordered with appetizers or desserts. Unlike mature a coconut, the young coconut meat is soft enough to eat with a spoon once the water is finished. Wong says his restaurant prefers to serve them fresh like they do in Thailand. Fresh young coconuts deliver more benefits.

I?ve heard great things about Lauren Oliver?s novels, but I?d never read one, so I was glad for the opportunity to listen to the middle-grade audio book Liesl and Po.? This unique tale of a girl who befriends a ghost was full of fun and adventure.
Young Liesl lives in her attic bedroom, locked there by her stepmother (the quintessential evil stepmother) since her beloved father died.? One night, a ghost named Po appears in her room, and the two lonely souls find comfort in each other and become friends.
Meanwhile, elsewhere in the city, a young orphan named Will, who is apprenticed to a cruel alchemist, mixes up two wooden boxes and delivers them to the wrong recipients, with dire consequences. The two desperate children each set out on their own quests to right wrongs, and their destinies eventually intertwine in a magical story about friendship and family.
I really enjoyed this engaging adventure story, with surprises around every corner.? It reminded me a bit, in tone and subject matter, of Neil Gaiman?s The Graveyard Book, though Liesl and Po has a wholly unique plot.? Po is a gentle, kind sort of ghost, but the bad guys in this story are truly evil, in fairy tale style.? In the end, good triumphs over evil, and every character gets what he or she deserves in a satisfying conclusion.?
I thoroughly enjoyed the audio book, performed by the very talented Jim Dale (narrator of the Harry Potter audios and many other excellent audio books).? However, I just saw on Amazon that the paper book is illustrated with beautiful pencil drawings, so I think that either format would be an excellent choice for middle-grade readers and their families.? Scarves Aren't Going Anywhere On "Smash."
<strong>The Event:</strong> Throughout Season 1 of "Smash," the use of scarves in every episode and on practically every character was mercilessly mocked. <a href="http://www.vulture.com/2012/04/smash-debra-messing-costume.html#photo=3x00011" target="_hplink">Vulture had a blast tearing apart Debra Messing's wardrobe</a> (which included scarves upon scarves), and <a href="http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/05/08/smash-scarves-nbc-katharine-mcphee_n_1500878.html" target="_hplink">HuffPost compiled an entire slideshow highlighting scarf appearances</a>. There were 26 of them. 26!
Unfortunately, NBC hasn't shaken up the "Smash" style for Season 2. This week, Katharine McPhee was spotted on set wearing -- you guessed it -- <a href="http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/07/25/smash-season-2-scarves-katharine-mcphee_n_1702931.html" target="_hplink">a scarf</a>.
<strong>The Lesson:</strong> Old fashion habits die hard.
"Downton Abbey" Will Say Goodbye
<strong>The Event:</strong> Despite the critical success of "Downton Abbey," producer Gareth Neame has quashed any rumors that we'll be growing old with Lady Mary. "We have to balance between continuing to make it for audiences around the world that adore it and making sure that we don't take it too far," <a href="http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/07/25/downton-abbey-ending-prod_n_1702241.html?utm_hp_ref=tv" target="_hplink">he explained to THR</a>. "Which is not now and not next year, but likely five years or six years, not 10 years."

The Dwight Schrute "Office" Spinoff Is A Real Thing
<strong>The Event:</strong> Despite the downward spiral of "The Office" -- especially since Steve Carrell's departure at the end of Season 7 -- Fans are all for a spinoff show ... especially where Dwight Schrute is concerned. On Wednesday, <a href="http://www.hitfix.com/whats-alan-watching/press-tour-2012-nbc-president-on-the-office-dwight-spin-off-and-more" target="_hplink">NBC president Jennifer Salke leaked a few details</a>.
"Rainn (Wilson) came in and talked about what he wanted to do with the spinoff," she told Hitfix. "And they made the decision at the show to incorporate it as an episode."
<strong>The Lesson:</strong> Milk it for all its worth.
A Sleep Disorder Stops "Fringe" From Filming
<strong>The Event:</strong> This week, Fox's "Fringe" actor John Noble was diagnosed with a sleep disorder. While Noble's illness was originally only supposed to put him out for three days, <a href="http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/fringe-production-delay-extended-john-noble-354579" target="_hplink">THR reported that production would be halted until August</a>.
<strong>The Lesson:</strong> Sleep is more important than TV.

So spoiled! Nearly 1 month later and I?m back to the US!! Who could miss a 4th of July at the Richards? house? And my super duper baby shower (coming next....) Not I! So I booked my ticket and headed west for 1 last trip home before baby de Abiega arrives. We were sad Ricardo couldn?t join, but so blessed to see so many of my family and friends while I was home on this trip. I love 4th of July at home!
We started with a nice chill day at the pool! These 2 weren?t hot!!
And then nearly a full week enjoying the lake- wish I had a few pictures of my boat ride with the Bowman?s, so relaxing to be on Watts Bar again!

ACCRA (Reuters) - Ghana has seen a smooth transition of power after the sudden death of its president, but as the nation mourns attention is already turning to who will replace him as the ruling party's candidate in a December vote.
Vice-President John Dramani Mahama was sworn in hours after the announcement of the death through sudden illness on Tuesday of 68-year-old President John Atta Mills.
This ensured that the West African oil, gold and cocoa producer, a former British colony once known as the Gold Coast, avoided the kind of messy political transitions that have plagued other states in a coup-prone region.
Ghanaians congratulated themselves on the seamless handover. Mahama, 53, a historian, former minister and communications expert, is expected to bring a steady hand to a fast-growing economy, one of Africa's newest oil producers.
But questions over who will now step into Mills' shoes as the candidate to keep his governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) in power in December's elections will inject some uncertainty into the political outlook.
Analysts say this could drive down the Ghanaian currency, which has lost about 17 percent against the dollar this year as the country's oil-fuelled boom sucks in capital and consumer imports and drives up demand for dollars to pay for them.
Traders said the cedi was relatively stable on Wednesday at 1.9550/1.9600 to the dollar.
"Political disruption is likely to be internal and will focus on who is the NDC's presidential nominee," said Azim Datardina, Ghana analyst at Africa Risk Consulting.
Mills, seeking a second term despite having suffered for years from undisclosed health problems, had already won his party's nomination to run against the opposition New Patriotic Party's Nana Akufo-Addo, defeating a divisive challenge from the wife of still influential former president Jerry Rawlings.
"This was certainly the wrong time for him to go considering that we have elections right around the corner," Rawlings told the BBC on Wednesday.
"Quite frankly, had he been advised and done something wiser earlier, I think he could have survived for another six or seven months," he said.
Some analysts expect Nana Konadu, Rawlings' wife whom Mills crushed in the NDC primaries, to claim an automatic nomination.
But Alban Bagbin, Ghana's health minister and a member of the NDC legal team, said the party would hold an extraordinary meeting to pick a new candidate for what is expected to be a tight race for the presidency.
"Most likely is a new nomination contest with a number of high-profile challengers who earlier balked at opposing Mills. A likely candidate is John Mahama," said Africa Risk Consulting's Datardina.
GHANA "LOST A FATHER"
Flags flew at half mast on Wednesday as the nation began a week of national mourning for Mills, who had served as president since winning a 2008 presidential contest that won plaudits for going down to the wire but remaining peaceful.
"I am personally devastated - I've lost a father, I've lost a friend, I've lost a mentor and a senior comrade," Mahama said in his first comments after being sworn in before a somber parliament on Tuesday evening.
"The fine gentleman that he was, President Mills rightly earned the title 'Asomdwehene' (King of Peace). He brought a distinctive insight to Ghanaian politics. He remained humble, honest and modest throughout his years in public service."
That sense of loss was shared by ordinary Ghanaians too.
"I didn't know him personally but he's everybody's father and a peacemaker," said Peter Fiave, a 70-year-old who went to parliament to witness the swearing-in of Mahama.
Tributes poured in from around the globe from heads of state including U.S. President Barack Obama, who had feted Ghana under Mills as a model and "good news story" for Africa.
Rivals were quick to praise the nation's handling of the sudden loss. "We are showing a maturity that must encourage all Ghanaians," said opposition NPP Chairman Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey.
CORRUPTION, EXPECTATIONS
Mahama, fresh from a U.S. tour to promote a recently published personal memoir on Ghana's history, is widely expected to maintain current policies in his caretaker role.
Yet, amid the plaudits for his predecessor, he will inherit the same struggles Mills had faced in managing Ghanaians' high expectations over the flow of crude from the country's Jubilee oil field since 2010, and in tackling corruption scandals that have dogged the NDC administration.
"Given the above, recent momentum has favored the NPP. Ghanaians also have a history of evicting the ruling party at the ballot box in favor of the opposition," Standard Bank said in a research note on Wednesday.
"Much will hinge on the manner in which the NDC is able to swiftly elect a replacement presidential candidate. Infighting already poses a significant threat to party unity, and any signs of an exacerbation of these tensions will favor the opposition," it said.
Former president Rawlings offered a glimpse of the kind of bad blood that exists within the party when he appeared to criticize Mills' achievements in office in the BBC interview.
"Considering that the cancer affected both his eye and his ear, he couldn't sustain more than three hours per day. So it was naturally going to affect his performance," Rawlings said.
Ahead of Mills' death, most analysts had expected a year of election spending testing Ghana's reputation for improved economic management. The government last week sought parliament's permission for extra spending.
"We think heightened uncertainty will result in some foreign investors taking a wait-and-see stance, which would imply a slowdown in FX inflows, which in turn would be negative for the already troubled cedi," Renaissance Capital said.
"We think another 5-10 percent depreciation is likely by (the end of 2012)," it said.

Turkey indefinitely closed three border crossings Wednesday to Turkish nationals trying to get into Syria, citing security concerns in the strife-torn neighbour, officials said.
"The crossings of Turkish citizens at Cilvegozu, Oncupinar et Karkamis have been... suspended because their security cannot be guaranteed on the other side," Turkish customs minister Hayati Yazici said at a news conference.
Syrian rebels fighting President Bashar al-Assad's regime seized control last week of three border posts opposite the Turkish crossings after clashes with Syrian forces.
Turkish trucks were burned and looted during the fighting at Bab al-Hawa, the Syrian post opposite Turkey's Cilvegozu crossing.
Commercial trucks from Syria and any other foreign country will also be barred in both directions but any foreign national trying to leave Syria will be allowed to do so, Yazici said.
A Turkish official told AFP that foreigners who want to cross the border into Syria would be required to sign a document that warns them about potential dangers there.
Turkey and Syria share a border stretching nearly 900 kilometres (560 miles).
With the proliferation of keyloggers, Trojans and other malware, it becomes progressively more difficult to ensure that data being used is safe. In fact, it may not be possible to state that data in use is ever truly secure given that any company is also dependent on the end user and how trustworthy he or she is.
So perhaps the first precaution that can be taken is to ensure that those that have access to the data actually need to access it. It is also important to consider if a person does have access to data where can they access it from and how.
If data is highly secure, then really it should never leave the secure location where it is stored, whether that is on-premise or in the cloud, no matter who might be asking or how convenient it might be. This issue becomes more of a concern when employees are being encouraged to work from home or are tempted to do work from an unsecured machine.
So the first step is identifying the required privacy of data (data discovery and classification is a useful task in itself) and who is allowed access to that data. Then the appropriate access rights can be set up and procedures created on how that data is to be accessed.
Once the policy is in place, then technical solutions can be used to help enforce those policies. To that end, it is important that data protection is part of the work flow and that the user is largely unaware of it where possible. It should be part of what they do.
Full disk encryption (FDE) is a good first step and increasingly ?invisible? to the end user. Whilst this may be considered as data at rest, it should be noted that FDE encrypts swap space which is arguably data in use. Furthermore, it has to include all media. For instance, data copied to a USB must be just as encrypted as the hard disk of the desktop or laptop.
Another technical solution that provides protection for company data is the use of a virtual OS on USB sticks. This allows employees to plug this USB into any machine, have their familiar environment and still be private. This allows employees to use home machines that may also be used by their family and yet maintain complete separation from that platform.
Increasingly Data Leak Prevention (DLP) is being used to ensure that a foolish action is prevented from publicising sensitive data but this is a whole subject in itself, please see here for more information on DLP.
Good gateway protection implementing defence in depth continues to be good policy for the company infrastructure. Locking down the user?s OS and keeping it and all applications patched with the latest and greatest releases is also key.
However, this frequently runs into issues where the danger of manufacturers introducing errors and hence vulnerabilities is contrasted with the vulnerabilities that are being patched. It requires an understanding of what is being patched, a process to test before production and a way to roll back if an error is discovered that cannot be accepted.
Another way of controlling the desktop environment is the application whitelisting where only known applications are permitted to run. This can impede productivity but if possible can go a long way to reduce the chance of malware and of inadvertent disclosure.
As ever, the deployment of defence in depth is best practice and some control at the gateway of a network is an extra precaution that is easy to deploy, manage and monitor. There also remains little alternative to good desktop security.
In the end, the security of data in use is to do about risk mitigation. However, with the current targeted attacks and the proliferation of zero day threats, the risk level is high. It is necessary that action is taken to implement the required precautions that reduce the risk to an acceptable level.
