Local security companies say their phones are ringing off the hook with new customers.
The calls prompted by news of eight homicides in eight days of the year.
Last month, Mary Escue was murdered in Jenks after she was shot by a 14-year-old burglar.
Now, homeowners are arming themselves with home security systems.
Dogs may deter thieves but Tyler Paulsen says he wants more security inside and outside his home.
Recent break-ins in his Broken Arrow neighborhood make him nervous.
"I just had that feeling, I just had that feeling,? said Paulsen.
The the feeling he could be next in his neighborhood.
"Preventing it,? said Paulsen.
So he called Witness Security to install a home alarm system and surveillance cameras.
"Keeping your family safe. I have a fianc? and I have a little boy at the house and keeping them safe is important,? said Paulsen.
He can monitor his home from his smartphone.
"You disarm it and you can have access,? said Paulsen.
The father went high-tech and also has a night-time camera that shoots in color.
The president of Witness Security says calls haven?t stopped.
"Our phone hasn't shut off, it is always ringing," said Keith Schultz.
He says he gets 15 to 20 calls a day and potential customers call?after a close call.
"A lot of break-ins happen when the customer arrives at the house and they have walked in on them and that happens frequently and I get calls, I can't say everyday but a lot," said Schultz.
The price depends on the type of security you choose. An alarm with Witness costs about $349 and surveillance cameras cost $1,800.

For some companies you pay for the equipment up front and some require contracts and a monthly service fee.
It may sound costly but the father says safety for his family is priceless.
"For the price of a flat screen TV you can get yourself a security system. You just saved yourself everything you worked hard to get,? said Paulsen.
Other homeowners with home security systems went to home improvement stores.
"I wanted a safe place for my family,? said Leigh Baker.
She is an Alert Neighbor Captain and had her Midtown home broken into and wanted to warn the thieves to stay away from her home.
?Signal them to that?they?are being watched and we have been alerted," said Baker.
She bought a strobe light with an alarm and surveillance cameras for about $350.
"You have access to see what is happening around the home,? said Baker.
The homeowners say their the investment in a home security system is worth it.
"I think everyone should have one really," said Paulsen.
If you live in Tulsa, Broken Arrow, Sapulpa or Owasso you need to register your alarm with the city. That way if the alarm is activated police will respond.
