49.9-MW Geothermal Plant in Salton Sea, California
The 49.9-MW Hudson Ranch I geothermal plant also known as?John L. Featherstone Plant has been unveiled by EnergySource. The geothermal plant is located in the Salton Sea area, Imperial Valley, California and is the first geothermal plant in that area in 20 years. The Salton Sea area reportedly has a capacity of 2 GW of geothermal power. Recognizing this, EnergySource, has put up the plant there and is planning to put up another by 2013.
According to Dennis V. McGinn, president of the American Council on Renewable Energy (ACORE) , the Salton Sea geothermal field is among the world?s largest and highest temperature resources because it lies directly inside an active plate tectonic boundary. Thus, it is a great source of geothermal renewable energy.

Green Power for Illinois Communities
Three communities in Illinois has decided to go green: the City of Evanston, City of Peoria and Village of Oak Park. The City of Evanston chose Constellation Energy to provide them with 100 percent renewable energy from wind projects in Illinois and nearby states. The City of Peoria selected Homefield Energy as their provider of renewable electricity from various renewable energy projects. The Village of Oak Park has been recognized by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as a Green Power Community for using 191 million kWh of green power annually. Green Power Communities are cities, towns and villages whose local government, businesses and residents collectively purchase green power in amounts that meet or exceed EPA?s green power purchasing requirements.

West Penn Power?s Whole House Program
West Penn Power residential customers can now avail of the Whole House Program, where contractors will visit the customers? homes to identify energy efficiency improvements. A diagnostic test and state-of-the-art home energy software will be used to? identify and recommend the most cost-effective strategies to reduce energy usage and increase the comfort level of the home. ?Homeowners can then choose to make any or all of the recommended improvements. If any home improvement was done, the contractors will go back to the home and check again if it has been effective in reducing energy consumption for the household.

Dominion Virginia Power Encourage Solar Power
Dominion Virginia Power has filed a proposal to the Virginia State Corporation Commission (SCC) about a new rate that includes a premium to customers who will install solar panels, generate electricity with solar power and sell the electricity to the company.? The company hopes to buy solar-generated electricity from residential and small commercial customers at 15 cents per kilowatt-hour for a five-year demonstration period.? The premiums would come from the contributions that Dominion Green Power customers make to support the production and development of renewable energy.

Solar Installation Unveiled at PCC Rock Creek
Portland Community College (PCC) officials has unveiled a newly completed 35,000-square-foot solar array at their Rock Creek Campus.? The 2,100 panel array is considered as one of the largest in the region, can produce up to 500,000 kilowatt hours of electricity and projected to save about $1.25 million in campus energy costs over the next 25 years. This solar project was made possible through the collaborative effort of PCC, The Energy Trust of Oregon, SolarCity, SolarWorld and the Oregon Department of Energy.
