Delhi Daredevils all set to resume CLT20 campaign against Auckland ? Cricket News Roundup ? Part III ? October 19, 2012
Refreshed after a six-day long break, Mahela Jayawardene led Delhi Daredevils are all set to take on a demoralized yet unpredictable Auckland outfit in a Champions League T20 Group A fixture, here at Kingsmead, Durban today, October 19, 2012.
The IPL side opened up their champions league campaign with a 52-run win over Kolkata Knight Riders, and will be hoping to emulate the performance again on Friday, to move an inch closer to the tournament semi-finals. The Daredevils boast one of the best batting line-up in the tournament, in Virender Sehwag, Mahela Jayawardene, Kevin Pietersen and Ross Taylor, and will look forward to all of them to fire tonight and set an intimidating total on the board, if asked to bat first.
They also have a dangerous pace attack, featuring the likes of Morne Morkel, Irfan Pathan and Ajit Agarkar, capable of tearing apart any batting line-up in the world. Weather forecast for Durban is heavy showers on Friday night. Let?s keep our fingers crossed and hope to witness a tight contest.
Delhi Daredevils (probable XI):?1 Mahela Jayawardene (captain), 2 Ajit Agarkar, 3 Unmukt Chand, 4 Morne Morkel, 5 Pawan Negi, 6 Naman Ojha, 7 Irfan Pathan, 8 Kevin Pietersen, 9 Virender Sehwag, 10 Ross Taylor, 11 Umesh Yadav.
Sussex county on Thursday confirmed Ireland?s Ed Joyce as their skipper for the 2013 season, with Chris Nash as his deputy.
Joyce, 34, was appointed as the first-class and one-day skipper in the midst of the 2012 season, after Michael Yardy stepped down. The Irish left-hander guided the county to CB40 semi-finals and fourth place in the LV? County Championship Division One.
?It?s a great honour and privilege for me to be given the chance to captain Sussex in 2013,? said Ed Joyce. ?I hugely enjoyed doing the job for the last few months of 2012 season and, having gone close this year, I feel very strongly we can bring some silverware back to Hove next year,? he added further.
Lancashire county has retained experienced Glen Chapple as their skipper for a fifth straight season, despite their relegation to Division Two in September.
Cricket director Mike Watkinson said: "Glen has the quality and fitness to lead by example. He will oversee a young squad in 2013 and his experience will be crucial as we look forward to a successful campaign in both championship and one-day cricket."
